O&M CØR.color: What Makes It Different

O&M — Original & Mineral — is one of the professional color lines we work with at Rooted. It's an Australian brand and one of the original pioneers of clean color technology, and it earns its place on our color bar for specific reasons.

It's opaque. O&M deposits dense, solid coverage rather than a translucent veil. That's the practical reason we reach for it on grey — particularly stubborn, resistant grey around the hairline and temples, the wiry kind that shrugs off gentler formulas. When hair has lost all its natural pigment, it needs enough pigment load to fill it completely. O&M delivers full, opaque coverage rather than a translucent blend.

The formulation skips the Big 4. CØR.color is free from ammonia, PPD, and resorcinol (O&M). In place of ammonia, it uses very low levels of MEA — a liquid rather than a gas, so no fumes. In place of PPD, the most common hair color allergen, it uses low levels of PTDS, an alternative pigment that many PPD-sensitive people tolerate. (Many, not all — patch testing still matters, especially with known allergies, and we take it seriously.)

Molecular Blend Technology. O&M's pigments are pre-linked before they ever hit your hair, which means color develops more efficiently and the formula doesn't need aggressive chemistry to get where it's going. That's how it achieves 100% grey coverage and up to five levels of lift without the harshness that usually accompanies that kind of performance.

It's the lightener we use for highlights. Our foil work runs on O&M Keratin Blue Lightener — an ammonia-free formula that lifts using a keratin amino acid complex, so hair gets protein support during the process rather than only afterward (O&M). Lightening is the most demanding service in any salon, and the formula matters more here than anywhere else. (For balayage and clay lightener work, we reach for L'Oréal Blond Studio 7 — its thick clay texture holds its place on the strand instead of dripping, which is exactly what hand-painting needs.)

Range and reliability. With 99 permanent shades, there's very little we can't formulate. It's vegan, and the whole line was built for professional use from the start — not a gentler product that happens to be sold to salons.
