Your First Visit to Rooted: Exactly What to Expect

New salon anxiety is real. Here's everything you'd want to know before you walk through our door.

Trying a new salon is a leap of faith. You're handing a stranger scissors and chemistry and trusting them with the thing you literally wear every day. We get it — which is why we want your first visit to feel less like a gamble and more like showing up somewhere you already belong.

Before your appointment

Book online, anytime. Our booking system lets you pick your service, your stylist, and your time without playing phone tag. Not sure which service to book? Choose a consultation — it's the right answer 100% of the time when in doubt.

Come as you are. You don't need to wash your hair before a color appointment (day-two hair is actually great for color). Don't stress about showing up "presentable" — fixing hair is the whole point.

Gather your inspo. Screenshots, Pinterest boards, a photo of your hair from 2019 that you've been chasing ever since — bring it all. Photos communicate what words can't.

When you arrive

You'll walk into a space that smells like... well, not a salon. That's the first thing most new guests notice. No ammonia cloud, no chemical sting — just a calm, welcoming studio in the heart of Donelson.

Grab a drink, get comfortable, and your stylist will come get you when it's time.

The consultation (the most important 15 minutes)

Every first visit starts with a real conversation — not a rushed "so what are we doing today?" We'll cover:

• Your hair history. Color, chemical services, that time you bleached it in a dorm bathroom. Full honesty helps us protect your hair.

• Your goals. The inspo photos come out here. We'll tell you honestly what's achievable today vs. what's a journey.

• Your lifestyle. How much time you spend styling, how often you want to come in, and what maintenance you'll actually keep up with.

• Your budget. We'd rather build a plan that fits your life than surprise you at checkout.

If you have a sensitive scalp or a history of reactions to hair color, tell us — we can talk patch testing and walk you through what makes our color systems different.

During your service

This is the relaxing part. Our stylists work with ammonia-free, PPD-free professional color, so you can skip the fume headache. Want to chat the whole time? Great. Want to zone out with your phone and a beverage? Also great. Your chair, your rules.

Before you leave

Your stylist will walk you through:

• What we did — so you can recreate (or at least describe) it later

• How to maintain it at home — including honest product recommendations, never a hard sell

• When to come back — and we'll book it before you leave if you want, so future-you doesn't have to think about it

After your visit

You'll get everything you need to keep your color and cut looking fresh. And if anything feels off in the first week — a tone you're not loving, a layer that's not sitting right — reach out. Adjustments happen, and we'd always rather fix it than have you quietly unhappy.
